Advancing along the championship roster, Round Nine features authors Laura Kaye and Ann Kane squaring off in two M/F excerpts. Snippet 1: love sneaks in during raw pleasure. Snippet 2: a wild reunion and bittersweet plans. Round Ten has Renee Luke’s sizzling M/F sexual power plays against Scarlet Day’s M/F/M menage, in which having an…

Yesterday afternoon I heard about the death of Robin Williams. Possible suicide.

I’d heard he was battling depression again, and I’m sorry to hear it took him away from us. Like many brilliant and creative people, his humor had the depth and edge of a person who learned early to hide pain with a grin.

I’ll miss him.

If you look in the right places, you’ll see the internet simmering this week over many different cases of plagiarism brought to light. Some of it is mind-boggling. Some is just pathetic. Wait, didn’t I write this post last year? Yes, something similar. This may become an annual thing. Amazon’s Kindle and CreateSpace may have…

Things are heating up! Today’s links take us to Round Three: Gina Gordon vs Leela Lou Dahlin, and Round Four: Mina Kelly vs Jack L.Pyke These are an interesting mix: kitchen implements in M/F foreplay, M/F exhibitionism, zero-G male/male lovemaking, and a stark reminder that M/M sexual tension can be every bit as hot as the…

Adult content warning: for the next two weeks this blog will have daily links taking people to the Scorching Book Reviews website, where they will find some very short, very filthy excerpts squaring off for this year’s Sex Scene Championships. There will be smut of all types. Be forewarned. There will also probably be spirited voting, heckling, attempts at…

In 2011 a group of spec fiction writers (who mostly knew each other from SFF.net) got together on a modest digital anthology: Past Future Present 2011, from Copper Publishing. Some of the authors are major award-winners with stories at well-known magazines and publishers; others are talented hobbyists and up-and-coming writers with much bigger projects in…

My fellow AbsoluteWrite author Erin Lark has a new M/M romance out today from Entangled Publishing: Swan Prince. A confession: I’ve read the first two chapters, and I heard about it while it was being written. I’m pushing myself to read more paranormal romance and erotic romance shapeshifter novels, especially those from writers I know.…

…as evidenced by the success of the latest Marvel Studio’s movie Guardians of the Galaxy. I saw it on opening day. It was great, a proper mix of irreverent humor, solid fight and battle scenes, decent worldbuilding a la Marvel’s comics universe, and unexpectedly deep character moments. A worthy and wonderful change from the Disneyfied, focus-grouped…

There I was this morning, with ten paragraphs of what I hoped would be an insightful, well-documented, though controversial blog post about  ‘(X) affiliation being used as an excuse for predatory/bad practices and substandard work in genre publishing’. It would have been about one facet of certain substandard small presses, vanity publishers, predatory and/or incompetent…

…or at least, I can claim the woozy, satisfied sleep of someone who has managed another 3500 words today, on a 70K book. Even better, I’ve figured out how to pull off a major plot twist. I think. I’m slightly sleep-deprived, so I may not know what I’m talking about.

I’ve been asked to cite some of my favorite M/M and M/F* fanfiction writers and stories. Why do I read them? They’re brilliant. Some of the authors are moonlighting professional authors, some easily could be. They can give me grinding Plot-What-Plot erotica, deep angst, high comedy, and breathless romance – often within the same story.…
