2019 Book Arts and Text-Based Art

Fabric Needle Book. 7×4.5×1.5″, cross-stitch cotton Aida cloth, cotton duck, cotton chintz, muslin, polyester hook & loop closures, polyester silkscreen fabric, grosgrain ribbon leaves, porcelain and glass beads.

First bookish project of the the year is this fabric needle book, because I 1) have too damn many needles and 2) destroy an average of two needles per project.

There’s room in here for a couple of thousand needles. Plus needle threaders, a cutting tool, beeswax, a leather thimble, two of my mammoth ivory ‘mascot’ needles, and some swanky rainbow titanium snips. But now I want to make smaller single-project needle books, for portability.

Tempe Festival of the Arts Spring 2019 Award Ribbons. 5×20, 4×16, 3×9″. Cotton, polyester, lace, glass beads, acrylic paint, polyester grosgrain ribbon, metal pinbacks.

The Festival adopted a wonderful poster and artist for its springtime show theme, and I got to riff on it. More here about these ribbons and their genesis.
